Thin Film Silicon Photovoltaic - Switzerland and China

Oerlikon Solar Agrees on Cooperation with Chinese

Oerlikon Solar (located in Pfäffikon, Switzerland) agrees on cooperating with the Center for International Cooperation of the China Renewable Energy Society (CRES) in the area of thin film silicon technology in China. (SolarServer Online )

The strategic cooperation was announced in Beijing on December 12th, 2011 and the goal is to make the advantages of Oerlikon Solar’s thin film silicon technology more widely known, especially in China.
The partnership with the Centre for International Cooperation of the CRES and the consultation of government authorities will benefit from joint research projects for solar power generation with thin films. Moreover the partners will jointly organize forums, such as the “Conference for Technologies of Thin Film Silicon Solar Panels” in 2012.

Reduction of Production Cost Shall Make Photovoltaic Even More Efficient

“With our continuous focus on the Chinese market, this cooperation is another step to emphasize the competitiveness of our thin film silicon technology in the largest market of solar panel producers worldwide”, says Dr. Michael Buscher, Executive of Oerlikon Group. “Oerlikon Solar stays focused on its primary goal on reducing production costs to make photovoltaic to an even more efficient energy resource.”

Production Costs for Solar Panels in China Lowered to 0.43 Euros per Watt

In addition to continuous increase of power efficiency, Oerlikon Solar has succeeded with its entire production line “ThinFab” to lower the production cost of solar modules to 0.43 Euros per Watt (China). This is less than half the cost of the previous generation. The consumer market for photovoltaic is currently primarily located in Europe, the U.S. and Japan. Oerlikon Solar sees great growth potential in Asia and plans to intensify its activities in this region to enhance customer proximity.
